Do you have a hero? My name is Travis Sweeney and my heroes are my grandfather and my mother. As a young child, I would spend afternoons at my grandfather’s salon sweeping up hair for five dollars a day while he and my mother would shampoo, cut, perm, color and create styles to perfection. At that time I never realized that I would one day get into the family business.
I started working for the County of San Mateo as a Case Management Assessment specialist in 2006. I worked with homeless individuals and families as well as numerous non-profit agencies with the hope of improving the lives of those in need. I received my Associates degree in Human Services from Canada College and my Family Development credentials from Cornell University while working full time.
As fate would have it the County of San Mateo was expecting budget cuts and our department was affected. At that time my best friend was hired last and it looked like he would be the one losing his job. He had just gotten married but unfortunately his wife was deported. In my heart of hearts, I could not see him lose his job and be able to afford the lawyer fees to gain her citizenship.
Shane Nesbitt has been my barber since 2006. One day in 2010 while he was cutting my hair I had a god experience. The memory of my grandfather flooded my thoughts and touched my soul. I looked around Shane’s shop and I could see myself enjoying becoming a Barber. I told Shane I was thinking about volunteering my job to be laid off to save a friends job and that I wanted to become a Barber. Shane told me “If you do it, I’ve got you”.
I took that leap of faith and volunteered my job to be laid off and started my journey as a barber. I graduated from San Jose Barber College and became a California licensed Barber in July of 2011. The very next day I started working at Headshots with Shane and the rest of the guys.
I consider barbering an art and a haircut an opportunity to transform a customer’s
appearance. My goal is to provide a professional experience, customer driven, resulting in each customer feeling great about how they look. I like working with all ages and all types of hairstyles.
Call the shop now to book your appointment with me. Looking forward to seeing you in the chair.
My name is Cedric Senica. I graduated from San Francisco Barber College and have been a licensed barber since 2007. However, I picked up a set of clippers at the tender age of 11 years old. Cutting my friends and family in the garage, I grew more and more fond of the craft, not for the money, but merely for the look on the face of the people I gave haircuts to. It was and continues to be a great feeling to have, knowing that I have the power to change someone's mood and better their day by giving them a great experience and quality haircut. To this day, I always look forward to seeing the reaction and expressions on old and new customers after spending time in my chair.
It is an honor to be cutting in Shane's Barbershop. I will always remain a student to the craft and life itself.
A master barber and Bay Area native, Shane Nesbitt has founded two of the most successful barber shops in San Mateo County.
His first shop, The San Mateo Zoo, opened in 2005 and received the Daily Journal's People's Choice award for the best barber shop in 2011. In 2009, Shane opened his second barber shop, Headshots, which has received a five star rating on Yelp and 100% customer satisfaction since the first day it opened its doors.
Most recently, Shane has decided to pay homage to the art of traditional barbering and shaving by opening up his third shop, Shane's Barber Shop.
